When uploading or transferring any file, especially a large one, there is always a chance that it will be corrupted. Checksums have been invented to make sure you’re looking at the “original” file. They are calculated based on the content and allow you to spot a discrepancy of even a single byte.
HashTab is a Windows Explorer extension and Mac Finder plug-in for verifying the integrity and authenticity of files by calculating checksums.
HashTab supports many hashing algorithms such as CRC, MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-3, RipeMD and Whirlpool, as well as BitTorrent Info Hash and Magnet link generation.
After installing HashTab, right-click on any file. On Windows, select “Properties” and you’ll see a new “File Hash Amounts” tab. On Mac, select “File Hashes” under “Services.
The “File Hash Sums” window displays all the hashes for the selected file. You can configure which sums are calculated and displayed. You can also insert the hash text in the highlighted field. This way you don’t have to compare hashes with your eyes, the HashTab indicator will show if there are any matches.
