Google will close its social network Google+
Google+ was launched in June 2011. But yesterday the company announced that it will close this project in August 2019. Why? Google identifies two main reasons:
1) Identified vulnerability
A bug was identified in the Google+ API that allowed third-party developers to retrieve user data even if they did not mark it as public.
To such data include username, gender, age, profile photos, email address. Fortunately, this data does not include user correspondence and phone numbers from their contact list.
This error existed since 2015 and was fixed in March 2018. Approximately 500 thousand user accounts could have been affected.
More than 90% of user sessions on Google+ last less than 5 seconds. Presumably, most of which are accidental transitions to the application and authorizations in third-party applications.
