Within five seconds of sending an email, a “cancel” button will appear on the screen. In the official Gmail app for iOS and Android, the feature can be found on the bottom strip of the display. In the web version of Gmail, it can be found in the bottom left corner.
To cancel the send, you must click on this button before it disappears. Once it disappears, it will no longer be possible to return the message. The canceled email will not be deleted, but will remain in the drafts folder. You can then delete it, edit it, or select a different recipient.
By default, you have five seconds to cancel an email, but you can extend the safe period to 30 seconds. To do this:
In the web version of the email client, click on the gear in the top right corner and tap “All Settings”.
On the “General” tab, find the “Undo Send” option and select the desired period: 5, 10, 20, or 30 seconds.
After making this selection, don’t forget to click “Save Changes” at the bottom of the page.
