UPDATED 9/27/2023: On Windows 11, you can now install the September 2023 update (KB5030310) to enable many of the new features and improvements part of the Windows 11 September 2023 update (version 23H2) on your computer. Although Microsoft originally announced September 26, 2023, as the release date for the new version of Windows 11, the company shortly after clarified that the September rollout is merely a non-security update for version 22H2 that enables some of the new features (such as the Copilot AI, the new Windows Backup app, the redesigned version of File Explorer, the new Dynamic Lighting functionality).
In other words, on September 26, the company won’t release the Windows 11 23H2. Instead, the first wave of features part of the next feature update will be available for version 22H2 through the “Windows Update” settings. Once the software giant completes this initial phase, before the end of the year, it’ll make available an enablement package to finish the upgrade and switch the version number to 23H2.
If you have a device already running Windows 11 22H2, you can download the first wave of features from the Windows 11 September 2023 update through Windows Update. Alternatively, you can also download the same update through the Release Preview Channel.
In the case that you have Windows 11 21H2 or a supported version of Windows 10, you will have to upgrade to version 22H2 first and then download the KB5030310 update from “Windows Update” to enable the new features.
This guide will teach you the steps to download and install the latest features part of version 23H2 on Windows 11.
