Clipchamp is a web-based video recording software from Microsoft that comes pre-installed on every setup of Windows 11. The idea of the app is to provide an easy-to-use solution for creating professional videos that content creators can then share on different platforms, such as YouTube, Instagram, and many other social networks.

Of course, you can find many other solutions to do the job better, but Clipchamp can help anyone without technical skills record videos. Using this application, you can screen record the entire desktop or a specific window. You can also include the camera to record both the desktop and yourself. Or you can use the app to simply record the screen.

The app requires a Microsoft 365 subscription to unlock every feature. However, you can also use it without a subscription with some limitations, including 720p max resolution for exports, premium audio and images, premium filters and effects, content backup, and more. In addition to Clipchamp, Windows 11 also offer screen recording capabilities with the Snipping Tool. You can use these instructions to get started.

This guide will teach you the steps to get started recording the screen on your Windows 11 computer.

  • Screen record on Windows 11 with Clipchamp
  • Screen record with camera on Windows 11 with Clipchamp
  • Camara record only on Windows 11 with Clipchamp

Screen record on Windows 11 with Clipchamp

To screen record the desktop or an app on Windows 11, use these steps:

  1. Open Start on Windows 11.

  2. Search for Clipchamp and click the top result to open the app.

  3. Sign in with your Microsoft account (if applicable).

  4. Click the “Create a new video” button.

  5. Click on “Record & create” from the left pane.

  6. Click the Screen option.

  7. Click the Record button.

  8. Click the “Tab,” “Window,” or “Entire Screen” tab, depending on the area you wish to record.

  9. Select the area to screen record. For example, if you are in the “Entire Screen” tab, click on the screen preview.

  10. Click the Share button to begin the recording.

  11. Click the Stop sharing button when you’re done screen recording.

  12. Click the “Save and edit” button. Or click the “Retake recording” option to delete and start the recording again.

  13. (Optional) Use the available tools to review and edit the video.

Quick note: Clipchamp offers some basic editing features, such as the ability to scrub the video, cut, duplicate, and split, and you can add more media elements. For example, from the left navigation pane, you’ll find the tools to create video intros from templates. You also have music, stock videos, stock images, transitions, and more.

  14. Click the Export button.

  15. Choose the 720p option. If you have a Microsoft 365 subscription, you can choose the 1080p option.

Once you complete the steps, the screen recording will save on your Windows 11 computer, more specifically, in the “Downloads” folder.

Screen record with camera on Windows 11 with Clipchamp

To record your screen, including the camera, with Clipchamp, use these steps:

  1. Open Start on Windows 11.

  2. Search for Clipchamp and click the top result to open the app.

  3. Sign in with your Microsoft account (if applicable).

  4. Click the “Create a new video” button.

  5. Click on “Record & create” from the left pane.

  6. Click the “Screen and camera” option.

  7. Click the Allow button for Clipchamp to access the camera.

  8. Click the Record button.

  9. Click the “Tab,” “Window,” or “Entire Screen” tab, depending on the area you wish to record.

  10. Select the area to screen record. For example, if you are in the “Entire Screen” tab, click on the screen preview.

  11. Click the Share button to begin the recording.

  12. Click the Stop sharing button to stop the recording.

  13. Click the “Save and edit” button.

  14. (Optional) Use the available tools to review and edit the video.

  15. Click the Export button.

  16. Choose the 720p option. If you have a Microsoft 365 subscription, you can choose the 1080p option.

After you complete the steps, the recording of the screen alongside the camera will export to the “Downloads” folder as a “.mp4” file.

Camara record only on Windows 11 with Clipchamp

To create a video using the camera with Clipchamp, use these steps:

  1. Open Start on Windows 11.

  2. Search for Clipchamp and click the top result to open the app.

  3. Sign in with your Microsoft account (if applicable).

  4. Click the “Create a new video” button.

  5. Click on “Record & create” from the left pane.

  6. Click the Camera option.

  7. Click the Allow button for Clipchamp to access the camera (if applicable).

  8. Confirm the mic and camera settings (if applicable).

  9. Click the Record button.

  10. Click the Stop sharing button to stop the recording.

  11. Click the “Save and edit” button.

  12. (Optional) Use the available tools to review and edit the video.

  13. Click the Export button.

  14. Choose the 720p option. If you have a Microsoft 365 subscription, you can choose the 1080p option.

Once you complete the steps, Clipchamp will download and save the recording inside the “Downloads” folder on your Windows 11 account. The only caveat is that the app only allows you to record up to thirty minutes.
