This week on tech, Microsoft upset users by announcing changes to OneDrive that will permanently remove unlimited cloud storage for Office 365 customers and free tier users will shrink from 15GB to only 5GB. The company said that changes are the result of a small number of users that were abusing the unlimited storage available to them.
Microsoft rolled out Windows 10 build 10586 to the Fast ring of updates to Insiders for PC. The new build doesn’t include new changes, only a number of bug fixes and a few tweaks, as the company reportedly has already signed off build 10586 as the “Fall Update”. The rumor has it that Redmond will be releasing the Windows 10 Fall Update (Threshold 2) on November 12th — however, we previously heard that November 10th will be the target, so we’re going to have to wait and see.
Also, I added a video highlighting the new change in build 10586 that I would recommend you to watch if you’re not part of the Windows Insider Program.
Early this week, the software giant made available the November firmware update for Surface Book and Surface Pro 4. Also, if you need to reinstall certain drivers on your Surface Pro 4 or Surface Book, Microsoft has now published the latest firmware and driver packages for both devices.
Last week, we saw the guys from iFixit tearing down the Surface Pro 4, this week they teared down the Surface Book revealing that the new laptop from Microsoft is impossible to repair, as such you’ll better off buying the protection plan too.
As we get closer to the release of Windows 10 for Xbox One, Microsoft published a new video clarifying a bunch of questions on how Xbox One Backward Compatibility works.
Late this week, it’s been discovered that Windows 10 Fall Update will enable a feature on Intel’s Skylake processors called “Speed Shift” that allow the operating system to delegate certain tasks to the processor to control frequency and voltage, which will significantly improve battery life and responsiveness of computers, including the Surface Pro 4 and Surface Book.
On how-to guide, this week I added the instructions to help you stop Windows 10 waking up from sleep in the middle of the night, and how to disable Windows Hello, as it has been reported by a number of users that the new Windows 10 feature is causing excessive battery drain on Surface Book and Surface Pro 4.
