This week on 10Alert: Microsoft rolls out a new preview of the Windows 10 Anniversary Update to testers for PC and Mobile. Windows 10 build 14328, which was released through the Fast ring, is by far the biggest build Insiders have received.

In build 14328, Microsoft is improving the Start menu with a single app list view and new left rail. The company promised a number of changes coming to Action Center and notifications, and with the latest release testers will begin to see many of these changes, including a revamp notifications and new badge on taskbar buttons, and more. Cortana also become smarter with new way to offer reminders and better synchronization across devices. The clock in the taskbar now integrates with the Calendar app. Windows Ink also arrives with this release and a lot more.

Along with the new features and changes, Microsoft has also published the bug fixes and known issues users must be aware of before installing the build.

With Windows 10 build 14328, users will see a lot of changes for PC, but the changes are not so noticeable on Mobile as the company recently also made available Windows 10 Mobile build 14327 to the Fast ring, which already includes most of the changes PC users are getting with the latest update.

This week, Microsoft also made available a new firmware update for Surface Book and Surface Pro 4 that promises to fix big issues, such as screen flickering, Windows Hello, and Wi-Fi. The firmware also improves performance and offers better stability.

Acer unveils the Switch Alpha 12, the first liquid-cooled tablet that also happens to look a lot like a Surface device. Check out the tech specs, pricing, and availability.

Microsoft is also having an Xbox One spring sale that offers a new console bundled with four exclusive games for only $349. If you haven’t upgraded to an Xbox One, now may just be the time.

This week I also added a few new how-to guides, including the steps to upgrade unsupported phones to Windows 10 Mobile — please proceed with caution.

You also learned about the “Save to Google” extension for Chrome that let you collect web content, such as articles, images, and videos for later viewing with a single click.

You now also know how easy it is to take screenshots from your Windows 10 Mobile phone, and another great guide will walk you through the steps to record videos using your mobile phone.

Now you can also send and receive SMS text messages using the Messaging app from your Windows 10 PC.

And to start getting you prepare for the Windows 10 Anniversary Update coming later this summer, you learned how to use the new feature on the operating system to reset apps, including the built-in apps on Windows 10 when they don’t work.

In addition, Microsoft is also bringing badge notifications to the taskbar on Windows 10, but as useful as they can be, they can also be intrusive, as such now you know how to disable badges on taskbar buttons.

If you missed any of the new stories, you can catch up with everything that happened this week and past articles here.
