The Windows 8 upgrade pricing promotion that Microsoft started last year is coming to an end on January 31st. And the company is now announcing the new regular pricing for its operating system starting February 1st 2013.

Microsoft promotion, which began back in October 2012, let people buy Windows 8 Pro upgrade for $39.99 (online) and $69.99 for the retail DVD box, giving consumers the possibility to upgrade almost any version of Windows (XP, Vista and Seven) for a very low price. Starting Feb. 1st, prices will change, Windows 8 edition will be available online and at retail for $119.99, while Windows 8 Pro will be also available for download and at retails stores for $199.99.

For anyone in Win 8 edition wanting to upgrade to the Pro version will have to purchase the “Windows 8 Pro Pack” which will cost $99.99. And for Windows 8 Pro users wanting to get Media Center will need to get the “Windows 8 Media Center Pack” for $9.99.

In the case you recently bought a new PC with Windows 7 between June 2nd and January 31st 2013, you should register for the Windows Upgrade Offer and get the Pro version of Windows for $14.99. In the same way if upgraded or your PC came with only core edition, you can upgrade to the Pro version using the “Add Features to Windows” and purchasing the Pro Pack for $69.99. Also for a limited time, if you want to watch DVDs and record live TV, Microsoft is offering the Media Center for free.

Cannot decide which version to buy? This previous article goes in details on all the versions of the operating system.

If you want to avoid spending more money, you should act now. The promotional offer still available until January 31st 2013, and you should take advantage of it.
