Edition ZDNet reports that the creators of WordPress report that they are working on adding an automatic update mechanism for themes and plugins to their CMS, as they are the most common cause of site hacks. The fact is that resource owners usually install themes and plugins and then forget to update them.
Work on the new feature started a few months ago. In fact, at present, automatic updates for plugins have already been implemented, and now the developers are integrating new functionality into the CMS. This feature is expected to work in WordPress version 5.5
this special plugin on their sites . Interestingly, the code for the new function has been present in the WordPress sources since since version 3.7, released back in October 2013 (it was then that the developers added an auto-update mechanism for the WordPress core). It's just that the code for background updates of themes and plugins was never included by default and was not used for its intended purpose.
Users discovered this feature a long time ago, and some even managed to hack configuration files of their own WordPress -sites to activate the feature. Plugin developers did not stand aside either, some of which also found a way to trigger auto-updates for their users (1 , 2). Now that the WordPress development team finally activates this code for the stable branch, there is no need to go through such tricks anymore.
