Chrome reduces the length of tabs by default when they no longer fit in the width of the browser at full size. When there are a lot of tabs, they shrink to the site icon, and then new tabs stop being added to the top bar.
You can change tab behavior by adjusting Tab Scrolling settings. The feature allows you to scroll the tab bar left and right when it’s full.
To do this, go to “chrome://flags/#scrollable-tabstrip” and set one of the following options and then reload the browser:
- “Enabled – tabs shrink to pinned tab width” (tabs will shrink to pinned tab size).
- Enabled – tabs shrink to medium width” (tabs will shrink to medium width).
- Enabled – tabs shrink to large width (tabs will shrink to large width).
- “Enabled – tabs don’t shrink” (tabs won’t shrink at all).
