Debugbear conducted a study on how 1000 popular Chrome extensions affect browser performance. Five different pages were included for the analysis: a simple test page, apple.com, toyota.com and news articles by The Independent and the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. The analysis showed that popular extensions like Honey, Evernote Web Clipper and Avira Browser Safety reduce the speed of loading web pages by dozens of times. And if the browser uses several extensions at the same time, the browser slows down even more.
The researchers also noted that on sites loaded with ads, ad blockers and privacy tools can significantly improve browser performance. They reduce the amount of downloaded data by as much as 43-66%.To check whether any of the extensions that you use slows down the work, follow the link.
