How to add an application to Windows desktop context menu?
If you need really quick access to launch a frequently used application without adding extra icons to your desktop , you can add this application to the desktop context menu:
1. Open “regedit.exe” via the search bar or “Win + R”.
2. Go to the path "HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTDirectoryBackgroundshell"
.
3. Right-click on the folder “shell”.
4. From the menu select “Create”, then “Partition”.
5. Give the new key the name you want to display in the desktop context menu. For example, “Notepad”.
6. Right-click on the created folder.
7. From the menu select “New”, then “Section”.
eight. Name this section “command” in lowercase.
9. Click on the folder “command”.
10. Click on the file “Default” on the right side.
11. Paste the full path to the executable. For example, if it is a notepad, then “C:WindowsSystem32notepad.exe”, quotes are required.
Now, when you right-click on the desktop, a new menu item will appear. Naturally, clicking on this menu item should launch notepad.
