This was quite an interesting week for the tech world, tonsĀ of the announcements came from the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas: HP showed off its first curved and ultra HD monitors, D-Link introduced the most advanced home wireless router with a bold design, and Lenovo revealed the LaVie Z series the lightest 13-inch hybrid computer, only 1.72 pounds.
Toshiba introduced the Portege Z20t, a great new 2-in-1 PC and perhaps the first alternative to Surface Pro 3. Dell updates its XPS 3 with an amazing edge-to-edge display and very thin bezel. The 13.3-inch Ultrabook features a 5.2mm bezel and an optional 3,200 x 1,800 pixels multi-touch display. Dell also began selling its UltraSharp 34 curved monitor for $1,200.
Intel crammed a full computer into a Chromecast like dongle called HDMI Compute Stick, running Windows 8.1 with Bing.
Asus unveiled the thinnest 2-in-1 Windows PC you will see in 2015. The Transformer Book Chi series comes in three models, the T90 is the smallest a thinnest at 7.5mm the 8.9-inch hybrid has a 1,280 x 800 pixels screen resolution with an aluminum unibody design.
Three ex-Google employees debuted at CES 2015 with the Remix tablet, basically a Surface Pro 3 rip off running Android. They even used the same Microsoft marketing strategy. Something you have to see to believe.
At the Consumer Electronics Show, Lenovo unveiled a number Windows 8.1 devices, including the new ThinkPad X1 Carbon, Yoga 3, Yoga Tablet 2, ThinkPad Yoga, and the Flex 2. Also, demo showed Lenovoās handwriting software that allows Windows users to a pen anywhere in the operating system.
As we wrap up CES 2015, this week Dish Network announced that is launching Sling TV, the first true internet TV solution aim to get back cord cutters. The service will also include an Xbox One app and Xbox Live Gold members will receive one month for free.
Moving on, Microsoft details that users running Windows XP and Windows Vista will have to perform a clean install, if they want to run Windows 10. The company also said that the January Technical Preview will get the ISO files at the same time the consumer previewĀ releases via Windows Update.
Microsoft is building a new login screen for Windows 10 and you can enable it now in build 9888 or 9901.
This week also we have new information about Spartan, Microsoftās new web browser for Windows 10. Leaked information suggests that Spartan will include Cortana to replace Bing in the browser, handwriting support, and a new way to group tabs. Also new concept screenshots began circulating the web this week giving us a first look of the browser.
The Microsoft Band received its first firmware update this week fixing bugs and improving performance. Microsoft lets anyone to download and test Office for Android on 7-inch and 10.1-inch tablets running KitKat or Lollipop. The company shares future plans to unify the three sync engine in OneDrive.
