How do I protect my folders from ransomware?
Ransomware is malware that encrypts files or prevents you from using your computer until you pay it money (ransom) to unlock it.
Windows has a built-in security feature that checks for applications that can make changes to files in protected folders and blocks unauthorized or unsafe access to files.
To activate the protection of your data:
one. Open “Settings” → “Update and Security” → “Windows Security” → “Virus protection and threats.”
2. At the very bottom, click “Manage ransomware protection” and in the next window enable this feature.
3. By default, control is set over all folders in a user’s profile. To add other files under protection, follow the link “Protected Folders” and add the necessary directories.
four. To add applications you trust to the white list, you need to follow the link “Allow an application through controlled folder access” and follow instructions.
