Move the paging file to another drive in Windows 10
In Windows, the so-called paging file is used for work” pagefile.sys” (hidden and system, usually located on the C drive), ensures the operation of programs even when there is not enough physical RAM memory.
One of the additional possibilities is to move this file from one disk to another. This can be useful in cases where there is not enough space on the system partition or, for example, to place the paging file on a faster drive.
To move the paging file to another disk :
one. Press “WIN
+ R” and run the command “sysdm.cpl “.
2. In the tab
“Advanced” in the section “Performance” press the button “Settings”.
3. In the next window, in the tab “Advanced” in the section “Virtual memory” press “Change”.
4. If you have checked “Automatically select the size of the paging file”, uncheck it.
In the list of drives, select the drive from which the paging file is being transferred, select the item “No paging file” → “Ask” → “Yes”. Next, select the drive to which the paging file is transferred, select “Size by system choice” → “Set” → “OK”, a then restart your computer.
